Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to go next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Planners tables.

Viewers can expect discovering which characters will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
